Indirect Labor Analysis

Indirect Labor Analysis differs from Direct Labor Analysis by the method of study. Conventional methods or tools such as time study or pre-determined time measurement will generally not work. The indirect work is usually composed of work that is long cycle, non-repetitive and without definite starting and ending points.
Usually a method or combination of several methods must be chosen. The selection of one or several of the following techniques is usually made: Work Sampling, Group Timing Technique (GTT), Time Study, Operational Audit and statistical analysis consisting of Correlation and Regression Analysis. The choice of the technique is extremely important and must give full consideration of the measurement accuracy required, the relative cost involved and the requirement for truly representative results.
